That said, go in clear-eyed: this is a long day. You'll leave Córdoba before 8am and won't be back until close to midnight. If you can spare two days, stay overnight in Granada. The 7:38am AVE from Córdoba gets you into Granada by 9:10am, which lines up perfectly with a 10am Nasrid Palaces slot. That's the train I take. Book it the night before if you can, prices on Renfe creep up fast. The 8:38am works too, but you'll be cutting it close at the Alhambra gate.

Two UNESCO sites and a sunset viewpoint sounds like a lot for a single day. It is, a little. But the Alhambra in the morning and the Albaicín in the afternoon flow naturally into each other: you exit the palace complex, walk downhill, and you're already in the old medina. Unlike most Spanish cities, Granada still follows the old tradition of serving a free tapa with every drink. Order a glass of wine or a beer at a bar in the Albaicín and a plate arrives without you asking. Good plates, too: jamón, fried fish, sometimes a small stew. Budget about half what you'd spend on food in Córdoba and you'll eat just as well. The bars around Calle Navas and the lower Albaicín are the most reliable for this.

Granada as a day trip is genuinely worth it, but you do feel the distance on the way back. If you have two nights free, stay in Granada and take the reverse trip back to Córdoba at your own pace.
