Ciudad de los Niños y las Niñas is a 4-hectare children's park (45,000 m²) that opened in 2007 with more than 30 play structures, some designed with Córdoba's monuments as models — the Volcano-Mezquita climbing frame being the most distinctive. The park is fully accessible for children with disabilities.

Equipment for Every Age

Slides of different heights, interactive musical features, sand zones, balance activities, and the popular 'El Río' water zone — busy from late spring through summer. A skateboard and roller rink, supervised by specialist monitors, caters to older children and teenagers. All equipment meets European safety standards.

The water zone runs from May through September and is one of the few free water play areas in Córdoba. On hot summer afternoons, it becomes a practical way to keep children comfortable in temperatures that regularly exceed 35°C. Parents can sit under the shade structures nearby while children cycle through the water features.

A Fully Inclusive Park

The park was designed from the outset with universal accessibility in mind. Ground surfaces are flat throughout. Play equipment accommodates children with motor, sensory, or cognitive disabilities. Tactile and sound-based features let visually impaired children use the park independently. The design has been referenced in Spanish planning guidance on inclusive public leisure, and the park receives regular visits from school groups with mixed-ability classes.

Facilities and Services

Entry is free. Adapted toilets, shaded benches, and two snack kiosks are on site. Picnic tables under the trees work well for a packed lunch. In summer, hours extend to 9pm so the water zone is usable into the evening. Free parking available.

The park is in the Ciudad Jardín district, a residential neighbourhood northwest of the historic centre that most tourists never reach. The calm residential streets around it are good for a walk after a busy morning in the old town.

A Complete Family Day

The park is next to the Zoo de Córdoba, which covers conservation-focused exhibits with over 500 animals. A morning at the zoo followed by an afternoon at Ciudad de los Niños covers a full family day without doubling back. Both are free or low-cost. Bus L03 from the city centre connects to both sites. Allow 2 to 3 hours at the playground itself.

Insider tips

Practical observations gathered the way a local journalist would keep them: short, specific, and more useful than brochure copy.

Best time

The water zone from May to September is the best free way to cool kids down

El Río water play area runs from May through September and is free. On hot summer afternoons above 35°C, it's the most practical option for families. Bring swimwear and a towel — there are no changing facilities but the shade structures nearby let parents sit comfortably.

Crowd tip

Combine with the adjacent zoo for a full family day — both are free or cheap

The Zoo de Córdoba is right next door. A morning at the zoo followed by an afternoon at Ciudad de los Niños covers a complete family day without doubling back. Bus L03 connects from the city centre to both sites.

Local custom

Summer evenings until 9 pm — when locals bring kids to escape the apartment heat

Extended summer hours mean the park stays open until 9 pm. Córdoba families use this specifically for evening outings when the daytime heat makes outdoor play impossible. From 7 pm onward the park fills with locals and the atmosphere is genuinely communal.
