The Hotel Mezquita has stood on Plaza Santa Catalina since 1979, directly across from the eastern walls of the Mezquita-Catedral. The 16th-century building it occupies is in the Judería, and the address has never tried to be anything other than what it is: simple rooms, a great location, and a price that makes sense.
The Rooms
Thirty-two rooms spread through a building where every corridor is a small museum. The owners never stripped the interiors — antique furniture, period paintings, traditional azulejos, and collections of objects accumulated across decades create an atmosphere you won't find in a chain hotel. Rooms vary in size: some have street views facing the Mezquita, others are quieter and face the interior. All are air-conditioned and Wi-Fi equipped. Bathrooms are clean and functional. No pretension, no fuss — but the combination of period character and honest maintenance is harder to replicate than it looks.
The hotel suits solo travellers and couples who want to sleep inside the historic centre without paying boutique-hotel prices. It's also a sensible choice for anyone visiting specifically for the Mezquita: the walk from front door to monument entrance is about 90 seconds.
Breakfast on the Terrace
The terrace looks directly at the Mezquita walls. Breakfast there, before the day-trippers arrive and the square fills up, is one of the most genuine Córdoba experiences available at this price. The scene at 8am — a coffee, morning light on the stone walls, near silence — is something Airbnbs on the square charge three times as much for. That view at €47/night is the whole argument for staying here.
The Neighbourhood
The Calleja de las Flores is 2 minutes away. Bodegas Mezquita is 50 metres for traditional tapas — one of the best-value places in the quarter. Casa Pepe de la Judería is 3 minutes for a proper Córdoban dinner with a good wine list. The Roman Bridge is 5 minutes. The Hammam Al Andalus is 4 minutes.
For something higher-end in the same area, La Ermita Suites on Plaza de Abades is Andalusia's only Monument Hotel — kitchen-equipped suites from €106, with Mezquita terrace views included.
