Feel the rhythm of flamenco and admire Andalusian equestrian art in the best shows Córdoba has to offer.
Córdoba's cultural performances are rooted in some of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in Spain. Flamenco in Córdoba has a specific character: more measured than Sevillian flamenco, technically demanding in its footwork (zapateado), shaped by the particular style called flamenco cordobés. The best tablaos — intimate venues in historic buildings of the Judería — present flamenco as a late-night art form beginning after 9pm, with guitar (toque), song (cante) and dance (baile) as an integrated whole. The Royal Stables of Córdoba (Caballerizas Reales) host the equestrian shows that have made the city internationally famous: the Iberian horse, selected and bred in Córdoba since the 16th century, is shown in high school dressage movements descending from classical Renaissance equitation. The Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba every July draws the world's finest classical and flamenco guitarists for concerts in historic spaces — the Alcázar gardens, the Mezquita courtyard, the Gran Teatro — that transform outdoor performance into something close to sacred. These shows are not tourist products: they are living expressions of a culture generating world-class art for a thousand years.
