Hammam Al Ándalus Arab Baths
Europe's largest Arab baths, steps from the Mezquita. Three pools, a steam room and traditional massages in a 9th-century Caliphate building. From €12.
Treat yourself to a relaxing break in the hammams and Arab baths of Córdoba, heirs to the Al-Andalus tradition.
Córdoba's hammam tradition is one of the most authentic in Spain — not a theme-park recreation but a living continuation of a practice central to Andalusian life since the Umayyad period. The Islamic hammam was not merely hygienic but social and spiritual — a place for conversation, relaxation and ritual purification at the heart of every Muslim neighbourhood. The original Roman-era baths were succeeded by dozens of Moorish hammams; one of the best-preserved medieval hammam complexes in Europe, the Baños del Alcázar Califal, has been excavated near the Alcázar and is open to visitors. Today, contemporary hammams in historic Judería buildings — particularly Hammam Al Ándalus, occupying a 13th-century structure — offer circuit bathing in cold, warm and hot pools with optional aromatherapy massage, following routines derived from historical sources. The combination of heat therapy, cold immersion, massage and sensory environment — dim lighting, the sound of water, the scent of eucalyptus and orange blossom — produces effects quite different from a modern spa: slower, quieter and more conducive to genuine restoration.
